And that's a wrap! After School Club @thegrangeacademy has finished for another year! Primary children from Reception to Year 6 have had a great time this week with the theme Habitats and Homes 🌿 They have met Ghana Speckled Leg Millipedes and Tropical Woodlice, learning how to safely handle them! We also looked at them under the microscope We have played habitat themed games and also had fun with the big bug toys! The children also created habitats for Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches and it was amazing to see their creativity when designing them 😍 Thanks again for an amazing After School Club! 🎉

Announcement! 📢 Recently I have felt more tired than normal, probably due to a very busy schedule and my underactive thyroid levels being altered again 💤 I'll be a bit slower in replying to messages & posting on social media whilst I focus on upcoming workshops (Round 3 of After School Clubs, learner assessments, online lesson...the list is endless!) and the animals routines 🐸🐢🐍🦎🐌 I'm also away on a very exciting trip on Friday so will keep you posted later in the week what I'm up to then 🎉 For now, it's time for me to sleep like our lovely George the Leopard Gecko, who will be a part of workshops later this year! 🦎

I forgot to post yesterday! Yesterday and today were Week 2 of After School Club @thegrangeacademy Yesterday the children met Chow Chow and Boop and created their own animals with superpowers such as sticky feet, two tongues, large tails and camouflage! Very imaginative group 😍 Today the children met Pebbles and Flash and used various materials to draw lots of different fauna & flora including cats, bugs, sticks, flowers, geckos and snakes! 🐌🪻🐍🦎🐈 What a brilliant week! Next week is the final week and is all about Habitats and Homes 😍

How wonderful are these pieces of artwork?! 🎉 Week 2 of the Reception& Year 1 After School Club today and the theme was Animal and Art 🎨 The children loved meeting Monty the Royal Python and Tigress the Leopard Gecko and it was wonderful to see them build their confidence with the animals 🦎🐍 After meeting the animals they used various art materials to create an animal canvas to take home!

Another brilliant Macro-Photography Workshop with @kevmorgans and @wildarena! As always it was lovely to see @colarmo too and the rest of our guests! Brilliant photos today despite the animals behaving like animals - slithering, climbing, jumping and hiding 😂

I don't know how to start this post as I am so excited to share this amazing news! Animal Teach has been a non-stop adventure since the start, since first channelling my anxiety into creating the logo and setting it up from absolute scratch to build a business I am so proud of 💙 I've met amazing people along the way and had wonderful opportunities to share my love, expertise and knowledge for animals big and small and encourage our future generations to connect with animals 🦎 Behind every educational workshop there's planning late into the night or early in the morning, weekends, bank holidays, half terms and Christmas. There's blood, sweat, tears and love that goes into everything I do to provide the best experience for everyone that I meet ✅ A few weeks ago I was nominated for the @animalstarawardsuk and this evening I found out that I AM A FINALIST!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 From the bottom of my heart I am so thankful for being nominated and chosen to be a finalist! This award provides an immeasurable amount of recognition for what I've set out to achieve in the local community and as you can imagine I am smiling from ear to ear! 😁🦎🐍🐢🐸

A HUGE thank you to @jsaquascaping, Zach and Kayti for an amazing day at the Blue Planet Aquarium! Josh was on of my students when I first began teaching so it was great to catch up 🎉 We had a wonderful day and what an amazing opportunity to go behind the scenes and feed some of the amazing shark and fish species and see the reptile and amphibian species 🦈🐠 Building relationships when working with animals is so important to share knowledge and expertise and pass this on to our future animal keepers 😍

The White's Tree Frogs loved having a visit to be part of student assessments yesterday! ✅ Gloves to protect their skin from anything that could hurt them ✅ Dechlorinated water to handle and keep their skin moist ✅ Handling methods discussed and carried out It's so important to teach our future generations of animals keepers/zoologists the safe protocols and handling policies for these wonderful species 🐸🐸🐸

Another brilliant After School Club today, this time with Years 4-6! Tigress the Leopard Gecko and Este the California Kingsnake helped the children learn what SVL means when measuring a reptile and we also weighed Tigress to see if she was within the healthy weight range! 🦎 They loved the diagrams of anatomy and x-rays images and we also had a lot of fun matching the skeletons with the @buttonandsquirt game! I have a few of these and would highly recommend them 😍

Had a great meeting with @myerscoughcollegecroxteth today! I'm very excited to share that Animal Teach will be an employer link for Myerscough College and share curremt industry needs to help better prepare learners studying for their Animals Care Qualifications for the World of Work! 🎉🎉

Another fun session, this time with Year 2&3! We focused on Inside an Animal Body and the children really enjoyed drawing on the x-ray boards to tell me what body parts they could see! They then met Leia the Milksnake and Mitch the Gargoyle Gecko and we talked about why it's important to health check our animals 🦎🐢 Round 3 tomorrow with the last year's of Primary...then it all starts again next week! 🤣

Back doing After School Clubs @thegrangeacademy today and we had a blast! 🎉 Today was the Reception and Year 1 Group who got stuck straight into learning about Animal Anatomy We looked at pictures of inside animal bodies, including the organs and skeletons, and outside the animals bodies 🦴🩻 We then prepared to be Junior Veterinary Assistants, wearing our aprons, to carry out health checks and safely handle Boop the Crested Gecko and Pig the Hermann Tortoise 🐢🦎 The children then completed their health check forms and were very excited to share what they had learnt! Noah was an outstanding assistant, helping his friends safely hold the animals and encouraging them to be confident to answer questions 😍 Round two tomorrow with the next years!

Lots of lovely children who were brilliant with the animals, thank you for inviting us along to your celebration 🎉 But the animals do have some news!‼️ This was the last birthday that Animal Teach will be doing for a while now. I have absolutely LOVED celebrating each and every birthday that I've done since setting up this business and can't thank each and every birthday celebration I have done enough for your wonderful support 💙 But I've been thinking about this for a while now and my heart lies in continuing to focus on the Educational Groups, Communities and Public Events that I work with and this is where my business aims are geared towards 😊 So this isn't goodbye to birthdays as you never know what the future holds, but a big thank you for being instrumental in the growth of Animal Teach 👏

Hot off the press!! 📢 Yesterday I posted about a wonderful #mentalhealthmonday podcast with @mrmickcoyle that I had the opportunity to be a part of and that the information was based on @princestrust and @natwest Youth Index 2024 Well I have some more news to share with you....you might recognise a local face and lizard in that index on Page 34 & 35! I will share the link here and in the story https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/about-us/news-views/princestrustnatwestyouthindex2024 I've read through the Youth Index and it saddens me that so many young people feel deflated, sad, anxious, unhappy and I hope that seeing the Case Studies in the Youth Index 2024 gives other young people a glimmer of hope that you CAN achieve your goals and dreams. Find the right support network, it honestly makes a world of difference 💙

Time to meet one of the Animal Teach residents! Iris is a Merauke Blue Tongue Skink who has been target and tong trained since arrival. She's got a huff & puff, tail whip attitude but has built up a relationship where she comes over to see me at the front of her enclosure AND has been out on my arms twice this week (only taken a year and she still bit me!) She's unlikely to go out to workshops as she's still defensive but it makes me feel so grateful so build a confident relationship with her 🦎

What an amazing two weeks doing the Home Educator Zoology Club! 🎉 I've met wonderful families and we've had a blast learning all about Animal Anatomy, Animal Behaviour, Animal Welfare, Animal Habitats and more! All of the kids received a certificate and small gift and I was so impressed with their questions and creativity 😍 Looking forward to planning round 2 for later this year! Great day today and mostly bug related! This morning was an online lesson about Forensic Entomology for @littlecraftersboxes 🪲 Now it's time to plan for the Enclosure Design workshop tomorrow for the Home Educator Zoology Club! 12 different invertebrate species, each with their own information guides, substrate tubs, decor packs and food to teach children and teenagers how to set up enclosures 🐌🪲🪳 Wilson is checking that I've got enough resources 🤣🐱

Excited to teach about Animal Enrichment today at a local secondary school! @thegrangeacademy 👏 Using fantastic information from @zoosnippets, @zoospensefull and @shapeofenrichment, we are going to discuss what enrichment is, learn about the different types of enrichment and design their own enrichment for a selected species! 🐌🐐🐇🦎🐦

What a busy start to the New Year! So busy that I have forgotten to do any of the social media 🤣 It's been great being back teaching a Year 11 group about Animal Housing & Accommodation and tomorrow is the start of the Home Educator Zoology Club! The theme for Week 1 is Inside An Animal, Outside An Animal and we are going to be looking at Animal Anatomy 😍 There's been lots of planning behind the scenes for other upcoming workshops too🦎 Keep an eye out for updates 😁

A HUGE thank you to each and every person who has supported Animal Teach throughout the last 12 months 🎉 Workshops have been carried out in primary & secondary schools, with local HAF Providers, with Home Educators, Online Lessons, working with Probation Services, Photography workshops, Art Workshops, Museum & Library workshops, working with local businesses....the list really is endless! I'm finalising dates but the calendar is looking pretty full until May 2024 already with some very exciting workshops booked in 😁 Animal Teach also turned 2 this year! What an achievement and how quick that time has flown! 🎂 As well as the workshops, I've also had wonderful opportunities as one of the Young Ambassadors for The Prince's Trust and presented to amazing groups of people across the North West - a highlight was speaking to 100 people at Capesthorne Hall! There has been sleepless nights, early starts, late evenings, blood, sweat and tears into growing Animal Teach whilst also being a wife and mum with a young family! But I've had the best support network around me to keep going 💙 I'm really looking forward to what 2024 brings! I like to stay and be positive and focus on the 'little wins!' - Life can throw curveballs at any time and give you bad days, but those little wins really do make up the bigger picture 🦎 2023 - You have been amazing! 🎉

What an amazing day celebrating Animal Teaching turning 2! 🥳 It was lovely to to read all of your comments and host a workshop for the people behind-the-scenes who keep me going - whether that is through helping with planning, helping with the animals, providing advice & guidance, helping to make resources and helping to keep me sane! 🦎 Just over two years ago Animal Teach was an idea. Fast forward to now and it's a family-run business, supporting our local community, licenced under AWLAIAR 2018, award-winning, member of key animal organisations and I really couldn't be more proud 🥰 So much has been achieved in these last two years and I can't wait to see what the future holds 🤩 A huge thank you to each and every Animal Teach supporter, the Mayor of Halton for coming along to show your support, my sister Danielle @diianphotographyuk for taking the photos and @chicommunitycaferuncorn cafe for being a wonderful venue as always 💙

The big day is here! 🥳 Today Animal Teach is 2 years old! Time flies! Two years ago today we received the news that we would be receiving our Animal Activity Licence under the Animal Welfare (Licencing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations (England) 2018, meaning Animal Teach was ready to launch 🦎 Our journey began with only 7 animals, plenty of protocols & policies and learning how to get our name out to the local community 🐍 We now have over 30 species of animals and invertebrate in the Animal Team! 🐢 To date, Animal Teach has carried out over 90 Educational Workshops to local schools, nurseries, colleges, museums, probation services, photography & art groups, home educators, HAF, CICs and birthdays to name a few! Animal Teach also won Theo Paphitis #SmallBusinessSunday and is a member of Responsible Reptile Keeping, ABWAK and Children's University and Naomi is a Young Ambassador for The Prince's Trust! 🤩 John and the Kids put up with Naomi turning the house into a zoo! 🤣 It has been an amazing journey so far that has included blood, sweat, tears, resilience, passion, hard-work, motivation and determination to get the business to where it is - but it couldn't have been done with the wonderful network of support behind the scenes AND each and every guest who has been to a workshop! Pip the Jackson's Chameleon has an update about the 17th December! 📢 After speaking with Naomi and the rest of the Animal Team at the Weekly Staff Meeting, it has been decided that original plans for a workshop have changed! Naomi is going to be hosting a workshop that's been invite-only as she has invited people from behind-the-scenes such as family and mentors to show her appreciation for all the help they give her 💙 She would still like everyone to join in with celebrations on that day a different way though as Animal Teach Turns 2!!🎁🎂 She'll do a social media post and would love to see your photos from workshops you have been too! Chow Chow, Mitch, Leia, Viking, Tigress, Milo & Maisy and Olive had a wonderful time celebrating Jack's 6th Birthday this afternoon! 🎉🐍🦎 They are all tucked back up in their enclosures now ready for a good night's rest!

What a lovely morning for a dog walk! 😍🐕 Glad I'm not out in the rain that's just started now though! 🤣 I've got through most of the emails/messages but will be spending the rest of the day inside being an Animal Keeper and beginning the deep clean on the animal enclosures 🦎😁

What a brilliant day! 🗣️This morning I was a guest speaker for the University of Leeds and spoke about being an Entrepreneur and Business Owner to 150 Students studying for their Masters!! What an amazing opportunity and a huge thank you to David for recommending me and putting me forward! 👩‍🏫 Afterwards I went to teach Animal Care at a secondary school - but turns out I misread the week A/B and the students weren't actually in today 🤣 ☕Now it's time to do my version of 'switching off' - hot chocolate, cosy PJs and creating resources on Canva with Ludovico Einaudi playing I've had an influx of messages & emails today and will reply over the next couple of days ✉️ There's no 9-5 as a business owner sometimes (all the time 🤣) but I love that I can be flexible with what I do, find family time and be a mum 💙

What a wonderful day! Today I was at Edge Hill University as a guest speaker and Young Ambassador for The Prince's Trust and to be part of the FIRST business career group launch 🎉 It was great to speak with two groups of students about running a business and how the Enterprise programme really teaches you about the fundamentals needed! Drive, passion, resilience and hard-work are so important! As well as cash flow, marketing, mission/vision/values, services & products - the list is endless! Running a business is a HUGE challenge and it's important to be prepared for the good and not so good days! 🦎 I'm so grateful I get to be a part of these events and share my journey 💙

What a brilliant afternoon! Today I was a guest speaker for Pet Allied Services at Myerscough College - Croxteth 😍 It was lovely to share my journey, the ups & down and ins & outs of running an Animal Activity Licenced business! The group were fantastic and had some pretty amazing ideas for their own Pet Allied Services! Huge thank you to Sophie for inviting me back along and Claire for asking me back in the New Year! It was also great to see my lovely colleagues too and Miss Piggy the Whites Tree Frog who moved in with the college a couple of months ago 🐸 See you all again soon! 🎉 @myerscough_croxteth_animalcare

What a great day doing another Macro-Photography workshop with @kevmorgans / @wildarena at @wilkinsoncameras in Liverpool! The animals (mostly) behaved for the photographers and Flash the Crested Gecko soon got the hang of how to pose - isn't he beautiful?! 😍

I am so excited to announce that @animalteach is now a Professional Member of @abwak - the Association of British & Irish Wild Animal Keepers! Many years ago when I was zookeeping, I was a member of this wonderful organisation and it's where my love for conferences & workshops truly began! Really looking forward to the next issue of Ratel and maybe even putting forward an article! 😍🦎🐍🐌🪲🐢

Today is very important - it's John's birthday! 🎉 As well as being the most amazing husband & dad, he also helps with Animal Teach so much! Whether he is building enclosures, carrying out routines, helping with the workshops, listening to me come up with more business ideas... his support has been there every single day since starting this journey 💙 I love you John! Yesterday I was invited along to @princestrust Manchester Centre to be a part of the celebrations for the Enterprise Programme 40th Anniversary! It was lovely to be sat on the panel with other inspiring people including @a.ur.tistic, @northernlights_home and Kelly and discuss the ins and outs of our journeys and running a business! What a wonderful event to be part of! 😍

And that's a wrap!! A fantastic third and final Natural History workshop @eurekadiscovery today!! I've had an absolute blast teaching you all about skulls, skeletons and skins as part of the Bothersome Beasts event at the museum! To see people off all ages, especially children, get excited about snake skin and beetle bodies has been great, plus so much more 🐍🪲 It was also amazing to see one of the Young Ambassadors wearing her Animal Teach T-Shirt! I couldn't resist a selfie 😍 Later this evening Animal Teach will be back at @nortonpriory for the final Spooky Stories! See you later alligators! 🐊

Another fantastic evening at the second Spooky Stories @nortonpriory and huge thank you to Tilly for all of your help again! Another wonderful Animal Teach afternoon @widnesmarket! Today 60 children and their families got to meet African species such as Giant African Land Snails, Train Millipedes and Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches! 🐌🪲 We also travelled to New Caledonia to meet Buzz & Boop the Crested Geckos or Sherbet & Mitch the Gargoyle Geckos 🦎 We finished our travels in Indonesia meeting Chow Chow or the USA meeting Copper 🐍 Kids you were brilliant! WHAT A DAY! I am absolutely exhausted but had a wonderful day doing a Natural History workshop @eurekadiscovery followed by Spooky Stories @nortonpriory! There have been lots of wonderful discussions about shells, skulls, defense mechanisms, habitats, animal behaviours, feeding strategies and more 🦎 We've looked at Tarantula eyes, snake skin and beetle bodies under the microscope 🔬 And there's also been safe animal handling 😍 It's also been great to meet so many of you and listen to our next generation of Zoologists! 🐍 Any messages I've missed I'll reply to over the next couple of days! I'm off to bed now to recharge for the next bunch of events! 😴

What an amazing day for the first Natural History Workshop @eurekadiscovery! It was so lovely to speak with so many children and adults about our natural world and share knowledge 😍I didn't stop talking from 10am until 5pm today! 🤣 If you were there please share/tag your photos! Last night we prepared patronuses! Tonight in the Ennis household, me and John are creating specimen jars and the kids have collected decor for them 🍂 Everyone does this on a Saturday night don't they? 🤣 Exoskeletons, skulls, eggs, skins and more are being prepared ready for the next event of Bothersome Beasts at @eurekadiscovery! I'll be there on the 23rd, 27th and 30th during the day with Curiousity Cases and Microscopes to explore our natural world! (Please note there will be no live animals at these events and you need to book your entry ticket with Eureka before attending!)

Animal Teach really is a family-run business! 😍 These wonderful patronuses have been designed and created in-house with thanks to John's dad and this evening Noah is helping sort them into piles of 5 and doing his 5x tables 🥰 Nearly ready to go for an upcoming event @warringtonmkt on the 1st November 🦉🦦🐕🦌 Excited to be back again! What a fantastic day being part of the Home Ed Session @nortonpriory It was wonderful to see so many lovely children ask fantastic questions about animals and learn about their typical behaviours, defense mechanisms, anatomy and habitats 🐍🦎🐌 It was also lovely to see the confidence when safely handling animals grow from start to finish!! And to top it off it was fancy dress, (hence the cat ears) and one of my lovely Juniour Ambassadors come along dressed as Naomi of Animal Teach!! She was a wonderful assistant today too, sharing her knowledge and handling skills with both groups 😍 If you were there today please share/tag your photos! Today is World Mental Health Day and this post will be different to my usual posts as I'm going to share something relevant to this important topic and something that may even resonate with some of you 💙 Whether you've been to my workshops or follow what I do on social media, you'll always see me smiling and happy, ready for whatever adventure or challenge is next! 😁 This is genuinely how I really am as I believe that being positive, taking the good with the bad and surrounding yourself with a good support network can bring comfort and a good mental state 😊 However you probably won't see the underlying mental stress and pressure faced each day, whether that's from running a business, being a working mum or general life! There have been some difficult moments during this adventure and prior to it and my brain does not like feeling sad or anxious (despite how normal it is to feel like that!) I guess the purpose behind this post is to remind whoever is reading (and myself) that these moments are normal and it's ok to feel like that! It's also a nudge to say find something that brings your own mind comfort - whether that's reading a book, going for a walk, playing an instrument, spending time with loved ones, eating your favourite chocolate bar or of course giving animals a cuddle! That's enough from me now! I'm back to preparing resources for upcoming events 🤣
